Designing for Neurodiversity In Academia: Challenges and Opportunities in Human-Computer Interaction
Academia often overlooks the needs of neurodivergent researchers, creating unnecessary obstacles to success. This CHI Special Interest Group (SIG) brings together HCI researchers, neurodiverse academics, and allies to explore strategies for a more inclusive, supportive academic landscape. By addressing challenges across career stages and roles, and examining the impact of technology and policy, we aim to unlock greater well-being, productivity, and the full creative potential of neurodivergent scholars. Join us to shape a more affirming future for all.
This 75 minutes of show-and-tell with discussions on neurodiversity in academia centred around a community and agenda output will focus on three key areas:
- Challenges and Best Practices Across Career Stages and Roles
- Tensions in the Use of Technology in Education
- Institutional Policies and Governance in the HCI Community
